LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding softball team rolled past MacMurray, 13-0 and 9-1, in a doubleheader improving to 23-10 on the season.
GAME ONE
Spalding 13 - MacMurray 0
The Golden Eagles started off hot in the first inning scoring nine runs on nine hits,
Avery Morris highlighted the first inning with a single up the middle and advanced to third on a throwing error scoring three runs. Spalding added to their lead in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs. The first on a
Jaycee Head bunt scoring
Addie Morris, and the final run of the inning came from
Amilia Hall's double scoring
Brooke Smith. In the bottom of the third the Golden Eagles plated two more runs to end the game in five innings,
Kailey Reed doubled down right field line and a homer from
Beth Wright would make the final, 13-0.
Olivia Carter (13-4) pitched a no-hitter game, striking out two batters, while walking four. Peffely finished 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs, while
Avery Morris drove in a team-high three runs.
GAME TWO
Spalding 9 - MacMurray 1
The Eagles scored two runs on one hit in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Jennifer Peffley scored
Ally Klein with a groundout to the pitcher and
Jaycee Head scored on a passed ball to score the second run of the inning. Lindsay Hubbard produced a sac fly driving
Christy Davis and advanced
Abby Booker to third. Klein singled to left field to score Booker, Klein then scored on a single by Peffley to left field. The Eagles extended their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the second. Peffley doubled in the bottom of the fourth and came home on a double by
Grace Sweat, who then scored on a pass ball. The Highlanders were able to produce one run in the top of the fifth, but it too little, too late as the Golden Eagles answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to end the game in five.
Beth Wright (4-1) took the win for the Golden Eagles scattering three hits with one strikeout.
Ally Klein and Peffley both finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
