Golden Eagles take one of two from Greenville

Greenville, Illinois- Spalding Golden Eagles split the double header against conference rival, Greenville Panthers. The Golden Eagles are now 6-2 in SLIAC play, 19-10 overall. 
 
GAME ONE  
Spalding- 11 Greenville- 2 
Spalding scored 11 runs on the Panthers in the first game of the double header. The Golden Eagles kicked off the scoring in the top of the first when Jennifer Peffley scored off a throwing error by the catcher. The Tigers would then tie the game in the bottom of the first inning at one. However, the Golden Eagles' bats woke up knocking in 10 unanswered runs through the 2nd and 3rd innings to put the game out of reach. Highlighting this run was Ally Klein and Jaycee Head, both hit an RBI and advanced teammates into scoring positions. In the third inning, Jaycee Head hit a single up the middle scoring two runs for the Golden Eagles. While Grace Sweat delivered the finishing blow to the Tiger's at the end of the 3rd by hitting a single down the left base-line, adding two additions runs to the Golden Eagle's lead. Ultimately, putting the game out of reach.  The Tigers were able to get 1 run back in the bottom of the 5th, but the deficient proved too great to overcome as the Golden Eagles went on to win 11-2.  
 
GAME TWO 
Greenville-3 Spalding- 1 
Although the Golden Eagles recorded more hits in the game than the Tigers, Spalding struggled to produce runs in game two against the Greenville, which ultimately resulting in a 3-1 loss. The Golden Eagles failed to score any runs through the first six innings of the game, leaving ten runners on base throughout the game. Greenville, on the other hand, opened scoring early tallying their first run in the bottom of the 1st, while adding to the lead in the 4th and 5th innings. Ending the scoring struggle for the Golden Eagles was Ally Klein, who scored off a double down the right flied line by Olivia Carter. In the end, the Golden Eagles could not over-come their early game scoring drought, resulting in a 3-1 loss in the 2nd game. The Golden Eagles move to 19-10 on the season and 6-2 in SLIAC play.
