Baseball suffers first loss of the season, 4-3, to Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Golden Eagles suffered their first loss of the season in a thriller against Huntingdon, 4-3, Saturday night in the at the Moe's Smokin' BBQ Classic.

THE BASIC

HIGHLIGHTS
- The Hawks scored a run in the bottom of the second and third innings and the Golden Eagles found themselves trailing for the first time this season. However, in the top of the fourth, SU tied the game at two runs apiece behind a JT Johnson single up the middle that brought in Jacob Reece and an Evan Trentman single to left field that plated Johnson.
 
- The Golden Eagles took one-run lead in the seventh when an error by the short stop on an Eric Meyer at-bat allowed Garrett Wilson to scamper home for the go ahead run. Nevertheless, the Hawks evened it in the bottom of the inning on a single by Wes Powell driving in Will Cosby.
 
- In the bottom of the ninth, Huntingdon's Chris Fisher capped a ball just past third base, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and advanced to third when a hard hit grounder bounced into the chest of Eric Meyer allowing the batter to reach and Fisher to advance. On the Hawk's next at-bat, Heath Haskins drove in Fisher with a SAC fly to left field to end the game, 4-3.   

STAT LEADERS
- Junior Ish Jones held Hawks batters to three runs, on 10 hits, while striking out four and walking one in 6 and 2/3 innings pitched. Reliever, Aaron Blake (0-1), suffered the loss giving up one run, zero earned, on one hit in 2.0 innings pitched.

- Trentman and Wilson led the Golden Eagles at the plate each going 2-for-4, with Trentman batting in one run.
 
- JT Johnson drove in and scored a run, while Isaac Lineberry had the Golden Eagles only extra base hit with a double to left field in the fourth inning.

FOR THE FOES
- Reliever, Tucker Duke (1-0), earned the win allowing one run, on twe hits, while striking out two batters.

- Wes Powell and Chris Fisher each finished with a pair of hits, while Heath Haskins drove in two runs.

UP NEXT
- The Golden Eagles will be back on the diamond this weekend taking on Case Western Reserve in Louisville, Ky. The games are scheduled for 1:00 pm Saturday and 11:00 am and 2:30 pm Sunday on the turf at DeSales High School. Game times are subject to change due to rain.
