JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Spalding men's basketball team lost their second straight SLIAC contest, 73-52, at MacMurray Saturday afternoon falling to 0-7 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first half, the two teams battled defensively over the first four minutes with the Golden Eagles forging ahead, 4-2, following a made jumper by
Marcus Montgomery. The Highlanders responded with a 7-0 spurt taking a 9-4 lead. SU cut the margin to three points at the 10:11 mark on a
Xavier Gari jumper in the paint, but MacMurray pulled away over the final 10 minutes extending their lead to 12 at the half.
- The Golden Eagles sliced the margin to seven early in the second half opening the period with a quick 5-0 run fueled by a
Troy Amanor layup and
Jaiquan Edwards' three-pointer. However, the Highlanders outscored Spalding 14-5 over the next four minutes extending their lead to 16 points and the Golden Eagles were unable close the gap falling, 73-52.
- Freshman
Jaiquan Edwards paced Spalding with a double-double tallying 20 points and 11 rebounds, while
Troy Amanor neared a double-double with 16 points and 8 rebounds.
FOR THE FOES
Trevor Voss led the Highlanders with 14 points and 14 rebounds, Camron Jamison added 12 points and Drew Burwinkel scored 11 points.
