FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Golden Eagles, led by junior guard
Marcus Montgomery's 36 points, lost in their away matchup against Franklin College.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half started out slow for the Golden Eagles, who were held scoreless for the first 6 minutes of the game and fell behind 13-0. Spalding then put on a 14-2 scoring streak to cut the Grizzly lead to just one point. From there, the two teams traded the lead back and forth with neither team managing a double-digit lead.
Marcus Montgomery went into the half responsible for 26 of Spalding's 38 points, scoring 24 himself and dishing out an assist to teammate
Troy Amanor for an easy layup. On the defensive side of the ball, the Golden Eagles were sneaky during the first half, accumulating six steals as a team.
- The second half started just like the first, with Franklin going ahead by 13 before Spalding could sink a shot. Amanor started off the scoring for the Golden Eagles, fooling the defense with an excellent shot fake before dropping in a mid-range jumper. Regardless of their relentless efforts and strong defense, with two blocks from
Jaiquan Edwards and one from
Braeden Warren, Spalding could not seem to cut the lead of the Grizzlies. Late in the game, with only three minutes left on the clock,
Marcus Montgomery made a 3-pointer, trimming the Franklin lead to just five. Unfortunately, it would be the last points of the night for the Golden Eagles, as they lost 76-66.
UP NEXT
- The Golden Eagles return home next Saturday, November 30th to take on the Centre Colonels at 3:00 PM.
