LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Spalding women's basketball team dropped to Transylvania 57-79 in season opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Golden Eagles started off slow trailing the Pioneers until a three-pointer by Allison Just at 6:53 in the first quarter, put them in the lead 9-7. After some back and forth, Maleah Hirn secured a jumper putting them in a three-point lead. Transylvania fired back with a 5-0 run taking back the lead, until a jumper in the paint by Hannah Renfro tied the game back up 13-13. After that, the Pioneers went on another 6-point run and didn't look back.
 
- The Eagles fell behind but managed to keep it within 10 points until the third quarter with 2:18 left. Despite the Golden Eagles best efforts, the Pioneers were able to pull away and secure their win in the fourth quarter.
 
- Maleah Hirn led the Golden Eagles with 17 points, five rebounds, and six assists. Allison Just also managed to secure 13 points, six rebounds, and two steals.

FOR THE FOES
- The Pioneers were led by Shelby Boyle who landed 22 points, three blocks, and six rebounds. Ashton Woodward was able to place 14 points and was 100% from the free-throw line for the night.
