JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Spalding volleyball team split their weekend games at the MacMurray quad Saturday. The Golden Eagles lost their opener to Westminster, 3-0, but bounced back to take game two, 3-1, over MacMurray.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In game one, the Golden Eagles lost to Westminster in straight, 25-20, 25-33 and 25-19. Freshman outside hitters
Savannah Kruse and
Alexis Dircksen led SU with 10 kills each.
Mya Summers also contributed with five kills and passed out 27 assists. Defensively,
Sarah Richards and
Haley Just anchored the back row combining for 36 of the teams 60 digs.
- In game two, Spalding topped MacMurray in four sets, 25-17, 13-25, 25-18 and 25-20. The Golden Eagles had three players finish with double-digit kills led by
Savannah Kruse with 16 kills.
Cassie Jones recorded a team-high .375 hitting percentage finishing with 13 kills, while
Samantha Robison added 10 kills.
Mya Summers had a strong outing passing 40 of Spalding's 43 assists for the game, as well as tallying 12 digs and five blocks defensively. Richards led the back row with 18 digs, while
Morgan Doolin and
Savannah Kruse both added four block assists.

The Golden Eagles will be back on the court Wednesday, October 2 at home hosting Fontbonne and Transylvania at 5 pm and 7 pm.
