Golden Eagles fall at Westminster, 70-60

FULTON, Mo. – The Spalding men's basketball team suffered a loss to SLIAC foe Westminster College, 70-60, Thursday night in Fulton, Mo.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Golden Eagles fell behind by double-digits early aided by three turnovers as the Blue Jays jumped out to a 18-6 lead. SU was able to battle back over the next nine minutes cutting Westminster's lead to two points on a Robert Bendingfield tip-in with 2:40 to play in half. However, Steven Brandt answered with a three-pointer on the Blue Jays next possession pushing their lead back to five and SU trailed 34-29 at the half.

- A Romo Tabb jumper to open the half extended Westminster's lead to seven points, but Marcus Montgomery knocked down a jumper and a three-pointer on back-to-back possessions to pull Spalding within two at the 18:07 mark in the second half. Nevertheless, the Blue Jays outscored SU, 25-12, over the next 13 minutes taking command of the game, 61-46, and the Golden Eagles would go on to fall by a 10-point margin, 70-60.
 
NOTABLE STATS
- Marcus Montgomery led Spalding's offense with 21 points, while Robert Bendingfield added 12 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Troy Amanor led the Golden Eagles on the boards pulling down six rebounds.

- The Golden Eagles struggled on the boards as the Blue Jays outrebounded SU, 35-24, resulting in a 12-6 Westminster advantage in second chance points, and a 28-18 advantage in points in the paint.

FOR THE FOES
- Kobe Wands paced the Blue Jays scoring a game-high 22 points, while grabbing 6 rebounds and passing out 4 assists. Romo Tabb and Steven Brandt also finished in double-figures scoring 17 points and 13 points, respectively.
