Golden Eagles rout Panthers, 89-46

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding women's basketball team extended their winning streak to four with a dominate performance over Principia, 89-46, Saturday afternoon at Columbia Gym. With the win the Golden Eagles improve to 11-6 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Golden Eagles took control of the game early, in the first seven minutes of the game Spalding pulled ahead, 23-10, following an Alex Martin three-pointer with 1:24 to play in the quarter and led 23-14 at the end of the first quarter. The Golden Eagles kept it rolling in the second quarter, a Megan Goeing layup extended SU's margin to double-digits and Spalding went on to extend the margin to 27 points following a Maleah Hirn three-pointer with three seconds remaining.
 
- The Golden Eagles picked up right where they left off during the second half. Goeing scored the first five points of the third quarter pushing SU's lead to 32 points, and Kailey Reed connected from long range to make the margin 41 points. In the fourth, Reed got in the lane for a layup extending the lead to 44 points, Spalding's largest of the game, and the Golden Eagles coasted an 89-46 victory.
 
NOTABLE STATS
- The Golden Eagles were hitting on all cylinders Saturday afternoon, with five players scoring in double-figures. Maleah Hirn and Kendyl Powell both recorded double-doubles. Hirn finished with 15 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists, while Powell recorded 16 points, 14 rebounds and 4 steals. Alex Martin fell a rebound short of a double-double tallying 11 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Megan Goeing led all scorers with 18 points going 6-of-12 from the field.
 
- The Golden Eagles controlled the paint against the Panthers, outscoring Principia, 38-16. Spalding capitalized on turnovers outscoring the Panthers 22-7 in points off turnovers.  
 
FOR THE FOES
- Sophia Hathaway had a good outing finishing with 16 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assist and 3 blocks.
