Softball Splits Doubleheader at MacMurray

Jacksonville, Ill. – The Spalding softball team split a doubleheader against MacMurray dominating game one, 14-1, while falling in game two, 9-8, moving to 17-14 (9-7 SLIAC) on the season.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Golden Eagles jumped on the Highlanders early with a five-run first inning. Jennifer Peffley singled to center scoring Ally Klein and came home on a Mackenzie Henderson triple to right center to make the score 2-0. Olivia Carter followed with a single down the right field line scoring Henderson, Caroline Hale doubled to right center bringing Carter around, and Addison Morris singled up the middle scoring Hale for the final run of the inning.

  • SU added a run in the second when Carter doubled down the left field line bringing Henderson across the plate.

  • Spalding scored eight runs in the top of the fifth. A two-run single by Henderson that scored Lindsey Hubbard and Klein highlighted the inning.

  • GAME ONE STATS
  • Jennifer Peffley led SU with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, while Mackenzie Henderson drove in a game-high three runs going 2-for-3 with a triple.

  • Amber Kilburn (6-9) earned the victory limiting the Highlanders to one run, on seven hits, while striking out three batters in 5.0 innings pitched.

  • FOR THE FOES
  • Kibbons led the Highlanders at the plate going 2-for-2 with one RBI.

  • Stewart (1-12) suffered the loss allowing 13 runs, 11 earned, on 13 hits, in 4.0 innings pitched.

  • GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Golden Eagles scored runs in the first and third inning to take a 4-0 lead. An Olivia Carter single scored Peffley for the first run of the game. SU added three more runs in the third, the first on a Sweat single up the middle, and Carter capped off the inning with a two-RBI single down the right field line.

  • Following a three Highlander runs in the third, SU answered with a run in the fourth when Peffley singled to left driving in Ally Klein.

  • SU found themselves trailing, 7-5, after Mac plated four runs in the fourth, but scored a run in the fifth and sixth innings on errors to tie the score, 7-7.

  • In the sixth, Mac scored a run to regain the lead, but a Caroline Hale groundout allowed Addison Morris to score the tying run in the top of the seventh. However, a Mac single in the bottom of the inning walked it off for the Highlanders.

  • GAME TWO STATS
  • Kaylin Rucker and Olivia Carter led Spalding at the plate. Rucker went 3-for-4 with a double, while Carter went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

  • Amber Kilburn suffered the loss in relief action falling to 6-10 on the season. Kilburn allowed two runs on five hits, in 2.2 innings pitched.

  • FOR THE FOES
  • Battefield was on fire at the plate for MacMurray going 4-for-5 with two doubles and four runs batted in.

  • Talasoma (3-3) earned the win for the Highlanders allowing eight runs, four earned, on nine hits, in 7.0 innings pitched.

  • The Golden Eagles wrap up the regular season Sunday at Webster. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 pm EST.
