WILMORE, Ky. – Golden Eagles softball fell, 6-3 and 4-3, in their season opening doubleheader at Asbury University Saturday in Wilmore, Ky.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
Laken Heavener led off the third inning singling to deep left-center. Heavner moved to second on a Rucker sacrifice bunt and crossed the plate following an error at third.
In the fifth, freshman Jennifer Peffley doubled down the left field line driving in Jaycee Head who reached on an error earlier in the inning. Callie Janek followed with a single to shallow right field scoring Head from second.
GAME 1 STAT LEADERS
Amber Kilburn (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits, while striking out and walking two batters, in 3.0 innings pitched.
A trio of freshman led the Golden Eagles at the plate. Callie Janek, Jaycee Head and Jennifer Peffley each went 1-for-3 with one run batted-in.
FOR THE FOES
Paige Hill received the win holding SU to three runs, on six hits, while striking out six batters and walking one.
Katie Kleier went 2-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored to lead Asbury at the plate.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
Freshman Abby Booker singled down the left field line scoring Laken Heavner to put SU ahead, 1-0, in the top of the second.
Following an Asbury run in the bottom of the second, Spalding answered with a run in the third when Mackenzie Henderson grounded out to third base allowing Lindsey Hubbard to advance home.
Trailing 4-2 in the seventh, Grace Sweat ripped a double to deep right-center driving in Jennifer Peffley from first.
GAME 2 STAT LEADERS
Amber Kilburn (0-2) took her second loss on the day allowing four runs, on 12 hits, while walking two in 6.0 innings pitched.
Grace Sweat had an outstanding performance at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double and one run batted-in.
FOR THE FOES
Deana Phillips earned the win allowing three runs, on five hits, while striking out three batters and walking four in 6.2 innings.
Alyssa Gaines went 2-for-2 with two RBI to lead Asbury at the plate.

The Golden Eagles head to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic March 11-14. Spalding opens the eight game trip taking on NCAA Division II Shaw University at 9:30 am EST, followed by a game against the University of Saint Joseph at 11:30 am EST.
