Strong second half pushes Eagles past Tigers, 70-52

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A strong second half pushed the Golden Eagle to a 70-52 win over Iowa Wesleyan Saturday at Columbia Gym. With the win, Spalding improves to 5-3 on the season and 2-0 in SLIAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first quarter, trailing 7-6, Spalding outscored the Tigers 13-3 capped off by a Hunter Wright layup in transition to take a 19-10 lead, but IWU hit back-to-back three-pointers to cut SU's lead to three heading into the second quarter. A Megan Goeing three-pointer on the opening possession of the quarter to push the lead to six, but an IWU 4-0 spurt cut it back to two. SU outscored Iowa Wesleyan 14-7 over the next six minutes taking a nine-point lead on a Hannah Renfro layup, but IWU was able to trim it to five heading into the halftime break.
 
- Another Goeing three-pointer opened the third quarter extending SU's margin to eight and the Golden Eagles slowly pulled away the remainder of the period pushing their lead to 13 points on a pair of Maleah Hirn free throws to end the quarter. The Golden Eagles kept their foot on the gas in the fourth quarter extending their lead to the game-high 20 points following an Angela Rose-Quinn jumper at the 1:35 mark as SU cruised, 70-52.
 
- Four Golden Eagles finished in double-figures led by Alex Martin's 17 points. Martin also finished with five rebounds and four steals. Freshman Breanna Anthony and Goeing each finished with 12 points apiece, and Hunter Wright tallied 11 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks.  

FOR THE FOES
- Darby Massner paced the Tigers with a double-double recording 21 points and 12 rebounds, while her sister Allie Massner tallied 10 points and 8 rebounds.
