LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding men's basketball team suffered their first conference loss of the season falling to Webster, 66-56, Saturday afternoon at Columbia Gym. The loss drops the Golden Eagles record to 3-6 overall and 3-1 in conference, while Webster improves to 8-3 and 4-0 in the SLIAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Golden Eagles were in trouble early falling behind 21-5 following a Josh Johnson three-pointer at 10:50 mark in first half. A pair of steals and seven quick points by freshman
Jerry Coleman ignited a 14-1 SU run cutting the Gorlok lead to three points following a
Robert Bendingfield layup with 6:47 to play. A Bendingfield three-pointer tied the game at 31-31 and a
Marcus Montgomery layup with 27 seconds left in the half put the Golden Eagles in front, 35-33, at the half.
- Spalding extended their lead to six on a Bendingfield jumper with 15:48 to play, but the Gorloks responded with a 12-0 run flipping the lead to six points in favor of Webster. Spalding cut the deficit to four on a Montgomery layup, but Webster pulled away stretching their lead to 12 points on their way to topping the Golden Eagles 66-56.
- Montgomery led the Golden Eagles with 17 points and four steals, while Bendingfield added 13 points and six assists. Freshmen
Jerry Coleman and
Troy Amanor added seven points apiece.
Brendan Holt led SU on the boards pulling down eight rebounds.
FOR THE FOES
- Josh Johnson led three Gorloks that finished in double-figures scoring 21 points, while Rodson Etienne and Nigel Wilcox scored 15 and 12 points.
