LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding women's basketball team capitalized on late free throws to prevail in overtime against Otterbein, 76-71, Saturday afternoon at Columbia Gym to improve to 2-2 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- At the end of one quarter, the Golden Eagles led 16-14. Tied 9-9 with 3:07 to play in the quarter, Tse Gahagan converted a pair of layups and freshman
Breanna Anthony knocked down a three-pointer to give SU the lead after one.
- SU used a hot-shooting second quarter to take a 36-33 lead into halftime. The Golden Eagles knocked down four three-pointers through the first 5:18 of the period jumping out to a nine-point lead. The Cardinals deployed a full-court press forcing turnovers on five straight SU possessions allowing Otterbein to tie the game at 33-33. However,
Megan Goeing connected from beyond the arc, her second three-pointer of the quarter, with 21 seconds to go giving the Golden Eagles the lead at the break.
- A turnover riddled third quarter allowed the Cardinals to tie the score at 49-49 after 30 minutes. A pair of
Hunter Wright layups and a Goeing three pushed SU's lead to a game-high 10 points. However, 10 Golden Eagle turnovers would allow Otterbein to fight their way back into the game tying the score 49-49 on a Dani Kissel layup with 19 seconds to go in the quarter.
- After a seesaw fourth quarter, the game remained tied 65-65. With 5:58 to play, the Golden Eagles looked to be on the brink of letting the game slip away as the Cardinals pulled out to a 61-53 lead. However, Spalding responded with an 11-0 spurt capped off by another Goeing three-pointer to pull ahead, 64-61, with 3:08 remaining in regulation. Both teams had opportunities win it in regulation, but were not able to capitalize sending the game to overtime tied 65-65.
- The Golden Eagles took an early 67-65 lead in overtime following a pair of
Maleah Hirn free throws, but found themselves trailing, 71-69, with 2:23 to go, following a 6-2 Cardinals spurt. Nevertheless, Spalding was able to capitalize at the free throw line converting 7-of-8 attempts over the final 1:33 to earn the win, 76-71.
- Four Golden Eagles finished the game in double-figures, led by
Megan Goeing's 19 points on 5-of-10 shooting including a 5-of-6 mark from beyond the arc.
Allison Just added 16 points and 7 rebounds.
Maleah Hirn finished with 14 and 6 rebounds, while Tse Gahagan added 11 points and a team-high 4 assists. Freshman
Hunter Wright also had a solid performance adding 7 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks.
FOR THE FOES
- Otterbein's Dani Kissel had an outstanding game scoring a game-high 31 points, while pulling down nine rebounds. Ali Cartnal and Jacy Jones also finished in double-figures for the Cardinals scoring 11 points apiece.
