Golden Eagles Downed, 5-1, by Tigers

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University men's soccer team suffered a 5-1 loss at the hands of the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles finish the regular season with a 14-3-1 overall record and 7-1-1 in conference claiming the 2018 SLIAC regular-season championship and #1 overall seed heading into this week's SLIAC Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard early when Asher Benge found the back of the net in the 3rd minute off a feed from Tyler Gore. Iowa Wesleyan slotted the equalizer in the 12th minute when Eliecer Urena slipped a shot past the outstretched arms of Trevor Massa to tie it 1-1. The turning point came in the 28th minute when sophomore Faysal Jilani received a red card for an intentional handball in the box resulting in a Tigers penalty kick and the Golden Eagles playing a man down the remainder of the game. IWU's Fabian Arvizu went low left barely beating the diving Massa to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead. Attacking with the advantage, IWU was able to add three more goals over the final 62 minutes to earn the 5-1 win.
- Benge score SU's lone goal, his second of the season, at the 2:50 mark in the first half.
- Kornell Hilliard led the Golden Eagles in shot attempts taking five on the day, with one coming on frame.
- Trevor Massa (8-1-0) suffered his first career loss allowing five goals and collecting eight saves on 13 shots face.
 
FOR THE FOES
- Fabian Arvizu starred for the Tigers scoring two goals (28', 49'), his eighth and ninth on the season, as well as connecting on an assist.
 - Chris Rimmer (7-9-1) earned his seventh victory of the season allowing one goal, with one save, on two shots faced.
 
UP NEXT
- The Golden Eagles will be back in action Thursday hosting the #4 seed in their SLIAC semifinal match. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 pm EST at the Champions Trace.
