LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University baseball team fell to Principia College, 13-9, in game two of a Saturday doubleheader. The win improves the Panthers to 17-19 overall, 8-14 in conference play. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 26-11 overall, 16-3 in conference play. Parker Tibbets (1-3) picks up the win, while Chance Brinley (1-2) is handed the loss.

Issac Lineberry had a solid game at the late, going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three runs batted in. Nic Chafin went 3-for-5 with a double, run batted in, and two runs scored. Jacob Woodruff went 2-for-5 with a home run, stolen base, and two runs scored. Blake Patterson was 1-for-4 with a home run and a pair of runs scored.

The Panthers drew first blood in this one, as second baseman Connor Coyne drove in a run with a triple, then scored on a wild pitch in the top of the third inning. The Golden Eagles responded in the bottom of the inning with three runs, including a solo home run by Patterson and a two-run double by Lineberry. The Panthers responded in the fourth, though, as Hunter Mehring took Slamko deep over the right field fence for a solo shot, tying the game at three. The Eagles regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of runs, including a sacrifice fly from Bruner. Principia tied things back up in the top of the sixth on a pair of singles and an Eagle passed ball. The Eagles, however, responded quickly again as Woodruff hit a solo shot to put Spalding back in front. The home run was followed by a Chafin run scoring single and a Cody Milliner sacrifice fly, which put the Eagles up 9-6. The Panthers would not go quietly, as they batted around to score seven runs in the top of the ninth, taking the 13-9 lead. The Eagles went quietly in the bottom of the ninth, as Principia struck out the side to finish off the win.

The Golden Eagle Nine will be back in action Friday, May 5th, as they head to Greenville, Illinois to take on the Panthers of Greenville College. First pitch is scheduled for 7 pm EST.
