Softball Drops Pair at Transylvania, 8-0 and 16-3

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Spalding University softball team dropped a pair of games at Transylvania University, 8-0 and 16-3, Thursday afternoon in Lexington, Kentucky.
 
Spalding fell in game one, 8-0. The win improves the Pioneers to 21-9 overall. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 12-15 on the season. Renae Morton (10-5) picked up the win, while Robyn Schoen (6-7) was hit with the loss.
 
Brooke Lamon had a solid day at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a stolen base. LeeAnna Hundley went 1-for-2 on the day.
 
Transylvania broke the tie in the bottom of the second inning on a Liter sacrifice fly, and scored another in the third on another sac-fly. The Pioneers added to their lead in the fourth, as they scored five runs on four hits to break the game open. They added another in the sixth, as they cruised to the 8-0 victory.
 
The Golden Eagles dropped the second game, 16-3. The win improves Transylvania to 22-9 overall. The loss drops Spalding to 12-16 overall. Tayler Thompson (3-0) picks up the win, while Olivia Leet (4-9) is handed the loss.
 
Grace Terrell had a solid game, going 1-for-2 with a double and run batted in. Laken Heavner went 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored. Brooke Lamon 1-for-3 with a double and run batted in. Lindsey Hubbard was 0-for-0 with three walks and a pair of runs scored.
 
The Pioneers scored early and often in this one as they scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning. They added seven runs on just four hits in the second, with the help of three Golden Eagle errors. Spalding got two runs back in the third, as Lamon doubled home both. The Pioneers tacked on four runs, padding their lead in the fourth. The Eagles got one in the top of the fifth, but that was as close as they would come as they fell 16-3.
 
The Golden Eagles are back in action Saturday, April 22nd, as they head to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa to take on the Tigers of Iowa Wesleyan University in doubleheader action. First pitch of game one is to be announced.
