LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University baseball team defeated Transylvania University, 12-6, in their final tune-up before heading to Florida for the Russ Matt Invitational. The win improves the Golden Eagles to an 8-2 overall record. The loss drops the Pioneers to 2-5 overall.
Hayden Davenport (1-0) picked up the win, while Robert Young (0-1) was hit with the loss.
Kam Bruner led the way, going 2-for-2 with a triple and four runs driven in.
Clay Kelly went 2-for-3 including a home run and two runs scored.
Jacob Woodruff went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Jeff Thompson was 2-for-5 with a walk and two runs scored.
The Pioneers got out to a quick 1-0 lead, thanks to a Connor Blevins solo home run. The Golden Eagles answered in the bottom half with a run of their own. Spalding broke the score wide open in the second inning, scoring eight runs on eight hits, including a three-run triple off the bat of Bruner. The Pioneers got a couple of runs back in the third and fourth but it was all Eagles after that, as they went on to a 12-6 victory.
The Golden Eagle Nine are back in action on Friday, March 10
th, as they open up their spring break trip in Orlando, Florida with a doubleheader against the College of St. Scholastica. First pitch of game one is slated for 9 am EST.
