LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University softball team defeated Hanover College, 4-3, in the second game of their Friday night doubleheader. The win improves the Golden Eagles to a 5-4 overall record. The loss drops the Panthers to 9-6 on the season.
Olivia Leet (3-1) picked up the win, Anna Phillippe (2-3) was handed the loss, and
Amber Kilburn picked up her first save of the season.
Brianna Eatmon led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a pair of solo homeruns.
Caroline Hale went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Brooke Lamon went 1-for-3, including a game-tying homerun.
Mackenzie Henderson was 1-for-3 with the winning RBI.
The Golden Eagles drew first blood in this one, as Eatmon took Phillipe over the wall for a solo shot in the bottom of the second inning. Eatmon got to Phillipe again in the fourth, taking her deep over the wall, making it a 2-0 Spalding lead. Starting pitcher,
Olivia Leet, was cruising right and putting up zeros until the top of the fifth, as she gave up three runs, including an unearned run that came across on a
Laken Heavner error. The Panthers took their 3-2 lead into the bottom of the eighth but it did not last long, as Lamon led off the inning with a solo homer to centre field, bringing the score even. The Eagles would not stop there, going on to bring another run across the plate in the inning on a Henderson single. Kilburn came out in the seventh and shut the door on the Panthers, as Spalding went on to victory.
The Golden Eagles are back in action tomorrow, April 1
st, as they welcome rival Webster University to Holy Cross Field in doubleheader action. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1 pm EST.
