LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University softball team fell to Hanover College, 9-1, in the first game of their Friday night doubleheader. The win improves the Panthers to 9-5 overall. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 4-4 overall. Sydney Griffin (5-3) picks up the win, while
Robyn Schoen (2-3) was hit with the loss.
Caroline Hale had a solid day at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a homerun.
Mackenzie Henderson went 1-for-1.
Grace Terrell was 1-for-2.
The Panthers drew first blood in this one, as right-fielder Ashleigh Donnell took Schoen deep to leftfield in the top of the second inning to take a 3-0 lead. They added to their lead in the next inning on another three-run shot, this time off the bat of designated player Allison Wiseman. The Eagles got a run back in the bottom of the third, as Hale took Griffin deep over the leftfield wall for a solo homerun. The Panthers got that run back, and more, as they scored three more runs in the top of the fourth extending the lead to 9-1. That's the way the game would end, as the Panthers went on to a run-rule victory.
The Golden Eagles are back in action after this game, as they take on Hanover in the second game of their doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 pm EST.
