MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Spalding University softball team opened the season with a 3-1 win over Albertus Magnus Monday at the Fastpitch Dream Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Robyn Schoen (1-0) earned the win allowing one run, on six hits, while striking out five batters. Laura Anderson took the loss for Albertus Magnus.
Mackenzie Henderson led the Golden Eagles at the plate going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
The Golden Eagles stuck first, Henderson hit a two-run double driving in
Caroline Hale and
LeeAnna Hundley to get SU a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Albertus Magnus took a run back in the fourth scoring after Henderson threw out a runner attempting to steal second. However,
Brooke Lamon pushed the lead back to two runs with a ground out to second that brought
Kaylin Rucker across the dish to make the final score, 3-1.
The Golden Eagles are back in action Tuesday in Myrtle Beach taking on Kentucky Christian at 1:30 pm, followed by a game with Mansfield at 3:30 pm.
