AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Spalding University baseball team fell to Salve Regina University, 4-1. The win improves the Seahawks to a 3-1 overall record. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to a 10-5 record. Jonathan Lynch (1-0) picked up the win.
Chance Brinley (0-1) was hit with the loss.
Jimi Keating led the way for the Eagles, throwing five shutout innings, shutting down the Seahawks lineup and holding them to just one hit. Keating, however, was on an innings limit as he pitched three days prior in a complete game effort.
Austin Drake led the way at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a run scored.
It was a pitcher's duel throughout most of the game, as the Eagles drew first blood in the bottom of the fifth scoring a run on a bases-loaded walk. The 1-0 score was held in place until the top of the ninth inning, as the Seahawks bats woke up and put up four runs. Lynch pitched a perfect bottom of the ninth, as the Seahawks went on to victory.
The Golden Eagle Nine will be back in action on Saturday, March 18
th, as they welcome MacMurray College to Derby City Field for a double-header in their first conference matchup. First pitch of game one is slated for 1 pm EST.
