LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University women's basketball team lost to Greenville, 68-51, Saturday at DSG. The loss moves the Golden Eagles record to 11-9 overall and 6-6 in the SLIAC.
Senior
Dee Dee Sliter led the Golden Eagles with 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while shooting 50% from the field. Senior
Maya Hardin also contributed 12 points for the Golden Eagles.
The first quarter was very close, Spalding took an early 6-4 lead on a
Brandy Hunter layup with 7:12 left in the first. Greenville responded with a 5-0 run over the next 1:57 to go up 9-6 with 5:15 left. Spalding fought to keep the game close ending the first quarter only down three, 15-12. The Second quarter was tough for Spalding with Greenville opening on a 4-2 run leading 19-14. SU responded quickly with five unanswered points to tie the game at 19-19 with 5:23 left in the half. However, the Panthers ended the half on a 13-3 run taking a 32-22 lead into halftime.
SU started slow to begin the second half. Finally, a layup by
Dee Dee Sliter ended the drought, but quick 4-2 run by Greenville put the Panthers back up 10, 36-26, with 5:25 left in the third.
Brandy Hunter responded with a three cutting the lead to seven, 36-19. However, that's as close as it would get in the quarter, both teams traded baskets until a Maria Reinhard jumper to end the quarter put Greenville up 46-37 heading into the final period. The forth quarter was much in Greenville's favor outscoring Spalding 22-14 to top the Golden Eagles 68-51
