Golden Eagles fall to Greenville, 125-119

LOUISVILLE, Ky. –  The Spalding University men's basketball team lost a fast paced game to Greenville College, 125-119, Saturday at DSG. The loss moves the Golden Eagles record to 3-19 overall and 2-12 in the SLIAC.
 
Sophomore Rlyan Rowe led the Golden Eagles with 37 points in 35 minutes of play. Three Golden Eagles had double-doubles on the evening. Senior James Turner finished with 30 points and 11 rebounds, Brandon Williams tallied 19 points and 13 rebounds, and senior Nick Trisko was an assist shy of a triple-double adding 13 points, 18 rebounds and nine assists.
 
The first half started fast with one tie and five lead changes in just 3:41 of play, and ended with Greenville holding an 11-10 lead. A barrage of three-pointers sparked a 22-4 Greenville run over the next 4:33 of play giving the Panthers a 33-14 lead over the Golden Eagles midway through the half. The next 9:06 went back and forth with each team trading baskets in a very fast paced manner. Greenville eventually pulled ahead by 20 points leading 63-43 with 2:40 left to play. However, the Golden Eagles stormed back over the last 2:40 of play ending the half on a 17-6 run, thanks to nine points and a buzzer beating three-pointer from Rylan Rowe that cut the deficit to nine points at the break, 69-60.  
 
The second half was just as chaotic as the first, with each team flying up and down the court trading baskets with one another. Spalding gradually cut into Greenville's lead getting it down to two, thanks to a fast break basket by James Turner with 13:27 left in the second, 84-82. A quick 8-3 run by Greenville put the Panthers back up eight with 13:07 left, before Spalding responded with a 6-0 run of their own and an and-one by Nick Trisko to pull the Golden Eagles within two again, 92-90. Spalding fought to finally tie the game at 105 with 7:24 left in play. Then a jumper by Brandon Williams put the Golden Eagles ahead of the Panthers 109-107 and pushed the margin to four points at 114-110 with 3:50 to go. Greenville answered with two threes on back-to-back possessions going a on 6-0 run taking the lead back 116-114 with 2:29 remaining, and SU wouldn't be able to overcome the margin falling, 125-119.       
 
Up next, Spalding hosts Webster University February 8 at DSG. Tipoff is slated for 8:00 pm EST.
