LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University men's basketball team defeated Webster University, 78-73, Wednesday night at DSG. The win improves the Golden Eagles record to 4-19 overall and 3-12 in the SLIAC.
Four Spalding players scored double-digits. Senior
Nick Trisko notched his 17
th double-double of the year dropping 29 points and pulling in 13 rebounds.
James Turner totaled 13 points and five assists, while
Rylan Rowe contributed 13 points and
Keith Wallace added 12 points in just 18 minutes of play.
Spalding jumped in from early when
Rylan Rowe knocked down a three-pointer to give the Golden Eagles a 7-4 lead 3:11 into the game. Webster responded with a 19-3 over the next 6:16 to go up 23-10 on the Golden Eagles. Spalding spent the remaining 10:33 of the first trading baskets with Webster, while trying to gradually cut into the lead. Rlyan Rowe got to the rim for a layup for the final basket of the half cutting the deficit to 10 points, 40-30.
The Golden Eagles started to slowly chipped away at the Gorloks lead in the second half. A jumper to open the half by
Nick Trisko cut the Webster lead to eight points. The Golden Eagles clawed back into the game eventually tying the score, 50-50, following a layup by
James Turner. Webster quickly regained the lead with a couple free throws by C.J. Moore. However, Spalding regained the lead, 62-60, after a three-pointer by
Kobe Drake, and quickly expanded it to six points 68-62 with 3:32 left in the game. Webster made a couple small runs, but the Golden Eagles were able to hold them off to come away with a, 78-73, victory.
Up next, Spalding travels to St. Louis, Missouri February 11 to take on SLIAC opponent Fontbonne University. Tipoff is slated for 4:00 pm EST.
