Golden Eagles Lose Heartbreaker to Westminster, 67-64

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding men's basketball team suffered their first conference loss of the season falling to Westminster, 64-67. With this loss, the Golden Eagles record goes to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in SLIAC play. This win makes the Blue Jays 4-3 and 2-1 in conference competition.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Following a slow start, Spalding trailed at half time by a 10-point deficit. The Golden Eagles used a 13-3 run to open the second half battling back to tie the game 42-42 with 15:18 to play. Spalding looked to be on their way to victory when a Brandon Williams layup pushed SU's margin to 11 points with 4:42 remaining. However, Westminster closed out the game on an 18-4 run to steal the win, 67-64.

Dominique Ellis led the Golden Eagles with 17 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the three-point line and 4-of-5 from the free throw line. Marcus Montgomery played a big role off the bench tallying 16 points in 18 minutes, while committing no turnovers.
 
- Spalding finished the game shooting 40.0% overall, while shooting 50% from the three-point line in the second half. The Blue Jays shot 14-of-20 with an overall, connecting on 30.4% attempts from the three-point line.  
 
FOR THE FOES
- Kobe Wands scored 21 points and snatched four steals, while Tanner Cochran added 12 points and one assist.

- The Golden Eagles will be back in action Wednesday night taking on Centre. Tipoff is 7:00 pm EST in Louisville, Ky. at Derek Smith Gymnasium.
