Golden Eagles Go Wire to Wire Topping Iowa Wesleyan, 84-62

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University men's basketball team led wire to wire rolling to an 84-62 victory over Iowa Wesleyan, Saturday afternoon at Derek Smith Gymnasium. The win moves Spalding's record to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in SLIAC competition, while the Tigers fall to 0-8 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was close early resulting in a 13-13 following a Brock Butler free throw at the 12:54 mark. The Golden Eagles took control with a 14-0 run sparked by back-to-back layups by Brandon Williams and Brendan Holt. After an IWU basket, SU answered with an 18-2 run to extend the margin to 28 on another Holt layup and led by 25 points at the half, 45-20. The Golden Eagles kept their foot on the gas in the second half extending their lead to 33 points following a Dominique Ellis three-pointer with 16:12 to play and cruised to an 84-62 win.

- Dominique Ellis had an outstanding night leading Spalding with 31 points going 11-of-13 from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from three-point range. Williams and Holt each added 10 points. Freshman point guard Cornelius had a solid all-around performance tallying seven points, six assists and six rebounds.

- The Golden Eagles finished the game shooting 47.2% overall and 37.5% from beyond the arc. SU also dominated to boards outrebound IWU 52-30 resulting in 15 second chance points.

FOR THE FOES
- Brock Butler paced Iowa Wesleyan with 22 points and Avree Clark added nine points.  

- The Tigers struggled from the field shooting 33.3% overall and 22.7% from the three-point line.

UP NEXT
- The Golden Eagles will be back in action Saturday taking on SLIAC preseason favorite Westminster College. Tipoff is 3:00 pm EST at Derek Smith Gymnasium in Louisville, Ky.
