Golden Eagles Drop Home Opener to MSJ, 72-60

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding women's basketball team dropped their home opener, 72-60, to Mount Saint Joseph Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Golden Eagles record to 1-4, while MSJ improve to 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Spalding trailed 15-7 early finding themselves in an early deficit, 32-23, at half to the Lions. The Golden Eagles managed a late run during the fourth quarter to narrow the Lions lead down to just three points, 51-48, with 7:11 left. The rally attempt was not enough, however, as the Lions extended their lead to pull away throughout the rest of the quarter leading to the final score of 72-60.
 
- Alex Martin lead the Golden Eagles with 16 points, while Lelanda Mathews also added 13 and 12 rebounds earning her first double-double of the season. Allison Just lead the defensive side for Spalding contributing three steals and two blocks on the day.
 
- Spalding finished the game shooting 32.8% overall and struggled from the three-point line going 1-of-7 on the day. MSJ shot 39.1% for the game, while also struggling from beyond the arc going just 1-10.
 
FOR THE FOES
- Four Lions finished in double figures. Alehia Tucker finished with 16, Maddie Haberthy had 13, Lainee Studer contributed with 11 and Mackenzie Marcum also had 11.
