Men's Basketball Falls to North Carolina Wesleyan, 90-65

ROANOKE, Va. – The Spalding University men's basketball team lost to North Carolina Wesleyan, 90-65, Friday night in the first round of the Dick Leftwich Tournament in Roanoke, Va. The loss drops SU to 0-2, while NCWC improves to 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Golden Eagles fell behind big in the first half behind a 21% shooting performance and trailed 57-20 at the break. Dominique Ellis scored 22 second half points to help SU outscore the Bishops 45-33 over the final 20 minutes, but it was not enough as the Golden Eagles fell, 90-65.

- Ellis led all scorers pouring in 25 points going 9-of-15 from the field. Freshmen Brendan Holt and Robert Benningfield added 10 points apiece. Holt also led SU on the boards pulling down six rebounds.

- For the game Spalding connected at a 40% rate from the field and 25% from three-point range, while NCWC shot 59.4% overall and 33.3% from long range.

- Spalding was outrebounded by double-digits for the second straight game losing the battle on the boards 37 to 24.

FOR THE FOES
- Adrian Moore (21), Justin Tankelewicz (19) and A.J. Frye (16) all scored in double figures for the Battling Bishops.

- The Golden Eagles will take on the Bluffton Beavers in the consolation game of the Dick Leftwich Tournament Saturday at 1:00 pm EST in Roanoke, Va.
