Trisko breaks SLIAC single-game rebound record in loss at Greenville

GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Spalding University men's basketball team lost a high-scoring game Thursday night against Greenville, 130-115, bringing the Golden Eagles record to 1-12 overall and 0-5 in SLIAC play.
 
Senior Nick Trisko led the team with a double-double totaling 37 points and a conference record 23 rebounds, he also contributed 4 four blocks. Sophomore Rylan Rowe added 22 points while senior James Turner also contributed 17 points respectively.
 
Spalding started slow being outscored 10-4 in the opening minutes of play, but made a run to take the lead 20-18 with 13 minutes left in the first half. Greenville went on a 21-4 run to go up 39-24 with 10 minutes left before Will Rainey scored five points in a row to help end the Golden Eagles dry spell. Spalding fought back over the next 10 minutes to cut Greenville lead down to only six points at half, 65-59.  Spalding shot 65% from the filed in the first half, but 21 turnovers made it hard for them to cover ground.
 
The Golden Eagles started strong in the second half with Nick Trisko scoring six straight points in the first minute of play cutting the lead to five at 70-65. The Golden Eagles fought hard for the rest of the second half trading baskets back and forth with Greenville. Spalding cut the lead to two points with 14 minutes left to play in the second with the score 81-79. but were never able to get the lead. At the end of the day turnovers were a big factor in the loss with Spalding totaling 34 turnovers, 21 in the first half and 14 in the second.
 
Next, the Golden Eagles will travel to face Webster University Saturday, January 7 for a conference matchup. The game is set for 4 pm in St. Louis, Mo.
