St. Louis, Mo. – The Spalding University men's basketball team suffered a tough loss Saturday evening to Webster, 77-73, bringing the Golden Eagles record to 1-13 overall and 0-6 in SLIAC play.
Sophomore
Rylan Rowe led the Golden Eagles with 20 points in 38 minutes of play. Senior
Nick Trisko contributed with another double-double scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds, and
Keith Wallace contributed 14 points.
Spalding started the game strong with a 15-6 lead, due to
Nick Trisko leading the Golden Eagles with eight early points. The Golden Eagles got their biggest led of the game with 7:59 left in the first half leading 26-12. But a late push at the end of the first half let Webster cut the lead to six points at half, with Spalding leading 36-30.
Spalding led most of the second half trading baskets back and forth with Webster. It wasn't until late in the second half with 2:55 that Webster got an offensive rebound and a put back to take the lead, 68-67. Spalding and Webster traded the lead back and forth for the next 1:21 until Webster went up 74-73. A foul by
Keith Wallace gave Webster a free throw to put them up two, 75-73. Spalding wasn't able to score on the next position making them foul and the Gorloks converted both attempts to make the final score, 77-73.
Next, the Golden Eagles will face Fontbonne University on Wednesday, January at 11. Tipoff is slated for 8:00 pm EST at Derek Smith Gymnasium.
