MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa – The Spalding University women's basketball team was victorious on road against Iowa Wesleyan College, 64-55, Saturday in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. The win improves the Golden Eagles record to 10-8 overall and 5-5 in the SLIAC.
The Golden Eagles were lead by senior guard
Brandy Hunter scoring 21 points. While
Alex Martin also contributed 20 points going 7-of-12 from the field. Freshmen
Micaiah Bowden also had a very impressive performance scoring 10 points in 22 minutes of play.
The first quarter started with both teams knocking down baskets to start the game off fast at an 8-8 tie with 4:48 left in the first. However, a 13-3 run by Iowa Wesleyan to end the first gave them a 21-11 lead entering the second quarter. The Golden eagles started to turn things around in the second quarter with help from senior
Brandy Hunter who contributed seven of the Golden Eagles 10 points. With the Golden Eagles holding Iowa Wesleyan to only three points in the quarter, SU was able to cut the lead to three points at half, 24-21.
The third quarter is when Spalding started to take over, finally tying the game at 33 with 5:22 left in the third. From there, Spalding used an 8-0 surge to take the lead 41-35 at the end of the third. Sophomore
Alex Martin lead the charge for the Golden Eagles in the third scoring 10 of her 20 points in the quarter, leading 41-35 at half. Spalding spent most of the fourth quarter trading baskets back and forth with Iowa Wesleyan.

Micaiah Bowden lead the Golden Eagles in the final quarter with 13 of the teams 23 points to hang on for the victory.
