LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University men's basketball team defeated conference foe Principia College, 75-71, Saturday, for their second consecutive win. The victory improves the Golden Eagles record to 3-15 overall and 2-8 in SLIAC conference play.
Four Golden Eagles scored in double figures led by junior
Brandon Williams, who made his season debut for SU, scoring 19 points.
James Turner and
Rylan Rowe added 15 apiece and senior
Nick Trisko notched his 13
th double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Spalding raced out to a 19-4 lead to start the game after shooting 8-for-13 from the field over the first 7:24 of the first half. The lead stretched to as much as 24 points late in the first half as Spalding held Principia to 21.9% (7-32) shooting in the first half. Going into the break Spalding led the Panthers 41-22.
Principia made a strong run in the second half, starting the half on a 17-5 run to cut the lead to eight with 14:59 remaining in the game. With only 1:51 to play Principia tied the game after a Micah Paulson three-point field goal, but
Brandon Williams answered with a three of his own to take a 69-66 lead. The Panthers cut it to one point with 46 seconds left, but a layup by
Rylan Rowe and a free throw by
Nick Trisko sealed the deal for the Golden Eagles.
Spalding travels to Eureka, Ill. next Thursday for their next matchup against SLIAC opponent Eureka College. The game is slated for tip-off at 9 pm EST.
