EUREKA, Ill. – The Spalding University men's basketball team lost to Eureka College, 84-75, Thursday night. The loss brings the Golden Eagles record to 3-16 overall and 2-9 in SLIAC conference play.
Three players scored in double figures for Spalding,
Rylan Rowe and
Steven Gordon both contributed 16 points apiece. While senior
Nick Trisko notched his 14
th double-double on the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Spalding started off on a strong note making a run to begin the game; a three-pointer by
James Turner put the Golden Eagles up 11-4 with 15:18 left in the first. Eureka quickly responded with a 15-0 run over the next 4:45 to go up 19-11. Spalding fought to get the lead down to one, at 32-31, with 2:29 left. However, a 13-2 run to end the half gave Eureka the lead at half 46-33. Eureka shooting 61% at the first and Spalding 43%.
The Golden Eagles came out quick to begin the second half, making an 18-5 run to tie the game 51-51, with 14:57 left. But a quick three by Shea Feehan put Eureka back up three. Spalding was able to tie the game one more time at 55-55 with 13:07 left, but that was as close as they would get to taking the lead back, and the last tie of the game. The next 13 minutes of play consisted of Spalding trading twos with Eureka threes, Eureka hitting six threes in the second half to Spalding's three trifectas. Fouls were also a big factor in the second; Eureka going 12-15, while Spalding only went 3-4 from the line.
Spalding travels to Mount Pleasant, Iowa Saturday for their next matchup against SLIAC opponent Iowa Wesleyan University. The game is slated for tip-off at 4 pm EST.
