JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Spalding University men's basketball rolled to a 72-54 win at MacMurray College, late Wednesday night in Jacksonville, Ill. The win marks the Golden Eagles first conference win of the season and improved their record to 2-15 and 1-8 in SLIAC conference play.
Sophomore
Rylan Rowe scored 19 points and passed out five assists, and senior
James Turner scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the way for Spalding. Freshman
Steven Gordon also poured in a career-high 14 points, while
Nick Trisko pitched in 11 points and 10 rebounds to notch his twelfth double-double of the season.
After falling behind 3-6 early in the game, the Golden Eagles utilized a 24-4 run to take a 27-10 lead with just over six minutes left in the first half. The Highlanders managed to close the gap to 13 points at halftime, but after an 8-2 run to start the second half the score never got closer than 14 points the rest of the way. As a team Spalding shot 49.2% from the field and 38.9% from three and managed to grab 36 rebounds to MacMurray's 22.
Spalding heads back home for their next game against conference opponent Principia College, Saturday January 21
st at Derek Smith Gymnasium. Tip-Off is at 3 pm.
