LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Senior
Dee Dee Sliter and junior
Madison Ratchford both scored two goals each to lead the Spalding University women's soccer team past Berea College, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon at Champions Trace in Louisville, Kentucky. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 4-0 on the season.
Kelsey Kaiser (4-0) earned her third shutout of the season while collecting four saves for the match. Returning from injury, Ratchford was able to score her first and second goal of the season along with Sliter who was able to put away two goals and one assist.
Demi West,
Alnee Tutson and
Kelsie Huffman also scored one goal each to round the victory up to 7-0.
The Golden Eagles started strong and had a total of 15 shots in the first half. The first goal came in the 29th minute of the match, and SU added another just over a minute later to push their lead to 2-0. The first goal of the match came from Huffman finding the end of McGimsey's cross. Kelsie was able to fire it into the back of the net to get SU the lead. Sliter pushed the SU lead to two goals by scoring off of a cross sent in by Tabler. Tutson was able to find the back of the net in the 38
th minute on her second put back attempt following a shot off the post and a block.
In the second half,
Madison Ratchford was able to score her first goal of the season by finishing Sliter's cross in the 53
rd minute. Ratchford was able to convert another shot into a goal in the 83
rd minute with the assist of Tabler. West was able to score a beautiful header off of a
Lauren Locke corner kick in the 88
th minute to push the lead to 6-0. In the last minutes of the game, Sliter was able to convert a pass from West for the final goal of the match. The Eagles shot an impressive 28 shots in the second half, as the defense held the Mountaineers scoreless to secure the shutout.
The Golden Eagles will be back on the pitch Tuesday, September 13 against Asbury University. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm EST in Lexington, Ky.
