Dee Dee Sliter scored a pair of goals and assisted on two to lead the Spalding University women's soccer past Defiance, 5-0, Sunday afternoon at the Purple & Gold Classic in Defiance, Ohio. With the win the Golden Eagles improve to 3-0 on the season
Kelsey Kaiser (3-0) earned her third win of the week and her second shutout in as many days while collecting two saves. Sliter powered the offensive attack totaling six points (2 goals, 2 assists) for the game, while
Baylee Tabler,
Alnee Tutson and
Kelsie Huffman scored one goal each.
The Golden Eagles started fast, scoring two goals in the first 17 minutes to take a 2-0 lead. The first goal of the game came when Sliter found Tabler shooting into the box and Baylee fired it into the back of the net. Sliter pushed the SU margin to two goals heading a
Lauren Locke free kick past the keeper. The Golden Eagles extended their lead to four goals over a 1:53 span. Tutson fired a shot over the keepers head from the top of the box in the 35
th minute, and Sliter found the back of the net for the second time in the 37
th minute to send SU to halftime holding a 4-0 lead.
In the second half,
Abby McGimsey crossed a ball into the box finding Huffman who would drive a shot past the keeper for her second goal of the season to give SU a 5-0 lead. The Golden Eagle defense and keeper
McKenna Pfeiffer would collect four saves to hold the Yellow Jackets scoreless to secure the shutout.
The Golden Eagles will be back on the pitch Wednesday, September 7 hosting Berea College. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 pm EST at Champions Trace.
