HANOVER, Ind. – The Spalding University men's soccer team struggled to overcome an early deficit Tuesday night as they fell 7-2 at Hanover College. This drops the Golden Eagles record to 1-5, as Hanover improves to 4-1 for the season.
The Golden Eagles trailed 4-0 after an eventful first half. Panther, Enrico Franchini scored his first goal of the game off a penalty kick in the 6
th minute. Spalding picked up the attack and fired a few shots on goal but was unable to finish. Dominic Isadore and Ryan Keeney picked up two more quick goals for the Panthers to improve their lead to 3-0. Jason Karrel found the back of the net off another penalty kick before the end of the first half.
Hanover struck first again in the second half after Franchini scored his second goal of the game off a penalty kick in the 46
th minute. Matthew Eldridge and Dean Mock put two more away for Hanover to take a 7-0 lead. Spalding continued to fight back and finally found the back of the net in the 84
th minute. Abdul Abdullahi sent in a ball from the right side of the field and found
Kasim Alsalman who headed it in. Just before the final whistle Abdullahi fired a shot from deep right and added to the Golden Eagles score making it 7-2.
The Golden Eagles will be back on the pitch Friday hosting Mount St. Joseph's at the Woehrle Athletic Complex in Jeffersonville, Ind. for an 8 pm kickoff under the lights.
