LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University women's soccer team opened the season with a 4-2 win over Earlham Thursday at Champions Trace.
Goal keeper
Kelsey Kaiser (1-0-0) earned the win allowing two goals and stopping one attempt on-goal. Dee Sliter led the SU offense with two goals, while
Baylee Tabler passed out three assists on the day.
The Golden Eagles controlled the possession early in the first half, but Earlham was the first to strike. Julie Cartman found the back of the net for the Quakers after a cross from Cherrah Barclay to push the Quakers out to a 1-0 lead. Spalding was quick to respond with back-to-back goals. Julie McGee assisted by
Alnee Tutson to even the score.
Then,
Dee Dee Sliter hustled to a ball sent in by
Baylee Tabler, beating the keeper for an easy finish and the 2-1 lead.
Earlham started the second half with another early goal by Cherrah Barclay. After 26 scoreless minutes the Golden Eagles found their groove late in the half slotting a pair of goals.
Kelsie Huffman slotted the go ahead goal in the 86
th minute, her first collegiate goal, and
Dee Dee Sliter found the back of the net for a second time to put the game out of reach.
The Golden Eagles will travel to Defiance, Ohio for the Purple & Gold Classic at Defiance College. Spalding will open against Heidelberg Saturday at 1pm, and will conclude the weekend with a noon kickoff against host Defiance.
