DANVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University men's soccer team fell to Austin College, 1-0, in their season opener at the Centre Alumni Classic in Danville, Ky.
Ryan Glynn (0-1-0) suffered the loss in the net giving up one goal while tallying seven saves.
Joey Lesher led the Golden Eagles on offense with seven shot attempts, with two coming on-goal.
The Golden Eagles came out firing, Lesher missed left just 1:28 into the game and had an attempt on-goal corralled by the Austin keeper two minutes later. Spalding went on to outshoot the Roos nine shots to eight in the first half, but neither team found the back of the net as the game went to the half scoreless.
Austin's Levin Dyson put the Roos on the board in the 54
th minute with a put back following a shot off the post. The Golden Eagles saw a pair of opportunities to slot the equalizing goal in the 85
th and 87
th minute saved by the Austin keeper to secure the Roos the win.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action tomorrow facing in-state foe Georgetown College; kickoff is 5:30 pm at Centre College.
