LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University baseball team fell to Greenville College, 3-1. The win improves the Panthers to 11-17 overall, with a 6-5 mark in the conference. The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 19-10 overall, with a 9-5 SLIAC record. Jason Collingwood (4-1) picked up the victory, while
Jimi Keating (4-3) was handed the loss.
Kam Bruner had a solid game, going 2-for-4 with a run.
Korie Vire also went 2-for-4 and added a stolen base.
Brad Speek went 1-for-3 with a walk.
Greenville scored early with a RBI single from Travis Ralls to make it 1-0. From there, the game would turn into a pitcher's duel, with neither team threatening. Spalding would finally breakthrough in the bottom of the seventh. With the bases loaded,
Matt Harper would hit a groundball that allowed his man from third to come home and tie the game at 1-1. Greenville would regain the lead in the top of the ninth, thanks to a RBI double from Ralls. The Panthers would add an insurance run and take a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the ninth. The Golden Eagles would threaten after Vire stole second, but were unable to find a late rally, coming up short.
Spalding will wrap the series with Greenville up Saturday, April 15
th in double-header action. The first game is scheduled for a 2 pm EST start time, with the second game to follow.
