Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Rally falls short as Golden Eagles lose at Greenville, 112-105

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Spalding men's basketball team fell to Greenville College Wednesday night, 112-105. The loss drops the Eagles to 8-12 overall and 6-7 in SLIAC play. Greenville improved 9-11 overall and 8-5 in conference.

Guard James Turner led the Eagles with a game-high 25 points, while recording four assists and six rebounds. Center Nick Trisko added 19 points and 16 rebounds. Freshman guard Dominique Ellis also had a solid game finishing with 18 points and three rebounds.

The Panthers jumpstarted the game with an 8-0 spurt, but Brandon Goeing halted the run hitting a three-pointer off an assist by Victor Cosby. Trisko would continue working on closing the gap knocking down a jumper. However, Greenville started to widen the margin taking a 10 point lead on a Michael Hohm jumper, but a Matt Jeannelas jumper and Goeing three would get SU back within five. The Golden Eagles would eventually cut the Greenville lead to two following jumpers by Turner and Terez Smith at, 41-39. Despite the effort, it wouldn't be enough for SU to take the lead as Greenville pushed the margin to six with just under thirty seconds remaining, but Ellis connected on a jumper to slice it to four heading into the locker room at the half.

Greenville struck first in the second half, but the Golden Eagles answered with a 4-0 run that slimmed the margin to three following jumpers by Trisko and Rylan Rowe in a 16 second span. Nevertheless, the Panthers got hot hitting four of their next six shots scoring 10 unanswered points to push the lead back to 13, and Greenville would go on the push their lead to 18 points, the largest lead of the game, with 9:28 to play. Spalding would trail by double-digits until the 2:11 mark when Dominique Ellis knocked down a jumper to make the score 107-98. Goeing drained a three-pointer with 51 seconds remaining to make it a one possession game at, 107-104, but the Golden Eagles couldn't complete the rally falling, 112-105.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action against the Iowa Wesleyan Tigers Saturday, February 6 at Derek Smith Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 pm EST.
