2016 SLIAC Women's Basketball Tournament Preview

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University women's basketball team will be participating in the SLIAC conference tournament in pursuit of their third straight SLIAC tournament championship title, and NCAA Tournament berth. They earned the third seed after a 17-8 overall mark and 11-7 record in the conference. With eight active players and no seniors, they will look for effective play from each member.

The Golden Eagles will face the number two seed Greenville College Panthers who earned an 18-7 overall record with a 14-4 mark in the conference. Greenville is led by leading scorer, senior Coley Baker who is averaging 11.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. SU and Greenville split the season series, with the road team coming out on top each time. The game is scheduled for Friday, February, 26th at 7 pm EST in Fulton, Mo.

The number one seed and host of the tournament, Westminster, will take on the fourth seed Eureka College Red Devils. They are led by Andrea Zalis who is averaging 14 points and 6.3 rebounds per game and Krista Armontrout, the team's leading rebounder at 7.6 boards per game to go along with her 13.9 points per game. Eureka will look to their senior leader and leading scorer Emily Camden, who is averaging 14.3 points per game. Eureka was swept by Westminster in the season series, losing by an average of 17.5 points and faces the tallest task of the teams in the tournament in their quest to claim a SLIAC championship.

If they advance, the Golden Eagles will be anxiously awaiting their potential opponent having split the season series against Eureka, including a 68-54 win at home in early December. Westminster was able to seep the season series against the Golden Eagles, but only won by a combined four points between the two games. The SLIAC championship game is scheduled for Saturday, February 27th at 8 pm EST.
