The Golden Eagles started slow falling behind 20-12 at the end of the first quarter. SU shot just 25% in the quarter including an 0-for-6 mark from beyond the arc. In the second quarter, Spalding battled back to cut the deficit to two before the half. The Bearcats C. Gilbert knocked down a triple at the 8:27 mark to push the SU deficit to 10 points. From there, SU slowly started to chip away the lead. Alex Martin converted 1-of-2 from the free throw line and Micaiah Bowden knocked down a jumper to cut the Rust lead to seven. After a pair of Rust free throws, a Kelsey Kaiser jumper sparked a 7-0 spurt capped off by another Bowden jumper to cut Rust's lead to two and the two teams exchanged baskets the remainder of the half with SU going to the half trailing, 31-29.

After spotting Rust a pair of jumpers to start the third quarter, a Maya Hardin and-one ignited an 8-0 Spalding run flipping a six-point deficit into a two-point lead and a Sliter free throw would give the Golden Eagles a three-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. SU opened the final quarter with an 8-0 run capped off by a Sliter three-pointer extending the SU margin to 11 points. The Golden Eagles would keep the lead at double-digits until a pair of Bearcat baskets in the final minute cut it to six making the final score, 65-59.
