Golden Eagles blank Blackburn, 4-0, to win 3rd straight game

CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The Spalding University women's soccer team earned their third consecutive conference win defeating Blackburn College, 4-0, Saturday afternoon in Carlinville, Ill. The Golden Eagles improve to 7-4-1 on the season and 3-1 on the conference, while Blackburn falls to 5-8-1, and 2-2.

The Golden Eagles were dominant offensively, earning four goals by four different players. Freshman, Abby McGimsey was the first to find the back of the net midway through the first half, earning her first collegiate goal. SU ended the first half with a 1-0 lead.

Both teams had scoring opportunities in the second half, but SU's back line defended well to keep the clean slate. With just 11 minutes of regulation, Kaitlyn Butler scored her first goal of the season and her college career to put SU up 2-0. Shortly after Courtney Anderson finishes off a cross from Baylee Tabler to increase the lead to three. With just six minutes left in the game, Dee Dee Sliter scored her 11th goal of the season to give SU the 4-0 win.

After today's match Sliter is ranked 2nd in the SLIAC conference for goals scored, while Tabler connected on her 7th assist ranking 2nd in the conference. Goalkeeper, Kelsey Kaiser earned her 7th win of the season and her 5th shutout.  

The Spalding University women's soccer team will host Eureka College on October 15th at 1pm.
