Golden Eagles edge Blue Jays in double overtime, 1-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University women's soccer team topped Westminster College in a 1-0 overtime win. The Golden Eagles improve to 5-4-1 on the season and 1-1 on the conference.

The match was fairly even with each team taking seven shots on goal. The Golden Eagles applied a little more offensive pressure by tallying 21 total shots to Westminster's 13. SU keeper, Kelsey Kaiser, made seven saves while Blue Jays keeper Ellen Woosley made six.

After 90 minutes of regulation with a score of 0-0, the game headed into overtime. The Blue Jays failed to capitalize on two corner kick opportunities during the first half of overtime. After the first ten minutes the score remained 0-0. The first goal finally came in the 102nd minute of the match. SU's Lauren Locke played a ball into the box from a corner kick. After it was deflected, the ball found the feet of Dee Dee Sliter, who took a dribble and finished the ball low right post. Sliter has nine goals on the season.

The Golden Eagles will be taking on Principia College next as they travel to Elsah, Ill. The SLIAC match is set for 7 pm EST on October 6th.
