JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Spalding U women's soccer team fell to 1-1 on Saturday with a 2-0 loss to Illinois College at England Stadium. Two, second half, goals by the Lady Blues were enough, as the Golden Eagles couldn't find the back of the net.
Eight combined shots in the first half, couldn't lead to a goal as the match remained scoreless going into halftime.
At the beginning of the second half Spalding subbed in sophomore
Kelsey Kaiser at goalkeeper for freshman
McKenna Pfeiffer and the Lady Blues had a break away chance that led to a goal, ending Kaiser's short scoreless streak. Kaiser would only play 17 minutes, as Pfeiffer would come back on to finish the match.
Late in the second after just before the 82
nd minute Illinois College tacked on their second goal on a deflection in the box that resulted in a Spalding own goal, giving them the 2-0 lead with less than ten minutes to play.
Spalding had a couple of chances late, but couldn't make anything of them, as they were shutout. The Golden Eagles attempted nine shots, six on goal, in the match.
The Golden Eagles are back on the pitch Sunday afternoon in Jacksonville, Illinois for a neutral site match against Lakeland College at 2:00 P.M. EDT.
