EUREKA, Ill. – The Spalding University women's soccer team opened conference play with an 8-0 victory against the Eureka Red Devils on Friday night. The Golden Eagles had six different players score a goal.
Eighty-six seconds into the match,
Madison Ratchford scored on an assist from
Lauren Locke on a corner kick to put the Golden Eagles on the scoreboard. Spalding would go on to add five more goals before the first half horn.
Hannah Sullivan added a goal in the 20
th minute and four minutes later Locke scored a goal of her own on a corner kick that deflected off of a Eureka defender. In the 28
th minute
Ali Bumblis got in on the scoring as she was able to find the back of the net on assists by Locke and Ratchford.
As the first half was winding down Sullivan added her second goal of the match in the 35
th minute and three minutes later
Dee Dee Sliter scored her first of two goals on the night.
The Golden Eagles went into half time with a 6-0 lead.
Spalding would add their seventh goal in the 58
th minute off the foot of
Alnee Tutson assisted by
Danielle Bridge and
Hannah Sullivan. The final goal of the match was unassisted and put into the back of the net by Sliter, her second goal of the night. This was Sliter's second multi-goal match of the season.
Kelsey Kaiser was in goal for the Golden Eagles and she recorded one save. The Golden Eagles outshot the Red Devils 44 to two. 25 of the 44 Spalding shots were on goal.
