Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Three 2nd half goals lead to loss to Griz, 5-2

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding women's soccer team fell 5-2 to Franklin College on Tuesday night at Champions Trace. Three second-half goals by the Grizzlies were too much for the Golden Eagles.

The scoring opened up in the seventh minute as the Grizzlies went quickly up the field and Clare Lenart finished off a goal from Maddie Fleet in the right corner of the goal. Six minutes later the Golden Eagles were able to equalize as Baylee Tabler put a nice ball into the box where Madison Ratchford finished off the goal to even the score at one apiece.

In the 30th minute the Grizzlies took back the lead as the duo of Lenart and Fleet worked together again to get the ball in the back of the net. This time Lenart put a one-touch pass in front of Fleet where she was able to score her first goal of the night, giving the Grizzlies a 2-1 lead into halftime.

Ten minutes into the second half the Grizzlies scored again as Lenart scored her second goal of the night on an assist by Emma Myers. Franklin would score two more goals in the next eight minutes; one by Allie Amarto on a corner that sliced into the goal and Fleet got her second goal of the night unassisted on a breakaway, giving the Grizzlies a 5-1 lead.

The Golden Eagles would add the final goal of the night in the 72nd minute, this one by Shelby Lurie, a corner kick that bent into the near corner of goal. The Grizzlies had a chance to clear the ball, but whiffed and the ball bounced in to get the Golden Eagles within three goals at 5-2.

The Grizzlies took 18 shots, 13 on goal as the Golden Eagles shot nine times, seven on goal. Spalding goalkeeper Kelsey Kaiser played the first half and allowed two goals. McKenna Pfeiffer was in goal in the second half and allowed three goals with one save in the match.
