CINCINNATI, Oh. – The Spalding University women's soccer team played to a 2-2 tie on Friday night against Mount St. Joseph at Schueler Field. The Golden Eagles are now 3-2-1 and the Lions advance to 5-0-1.
The scoring opened in the 22
nd minute as Morgan Knasel scored a one-on-one goal as she got past a defender for the 1-0 lead. 10 minutes later,
Dee Dee Sliter, scored the equalizer, unassisted.
The teams went into halftime knotted at one.
In the 68
th minute
Ali Bumblis scored on a rebound of a penalty kick to give the Golden Eagles a 2-1 lead. The lead was gone seven minutes later when the Lions scored the tying goal off the foot of Taylor Clark, assisted by Kaylan Gruber.
Both teams went the final 15 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of two overtime periods without scoring a goal and finished tied, 2-2.
The Lions out-shot the Golden Eagles 17-to-8 and 11-to-3 on goal. Goalkeeper
Kelsey Kaiser made nine saves and allowed both of the Lions goals. Of the three shots on goal, Bumblis made two of them with the other lone one coming off the foot of Sliter for her goal.
Spalding will be back in action on Tuesday September 22 vs. Franklin College at 6:00 P.M. EDT at Champions Trace.
